i purchased a hamilton beach slow cooker/crock pot a little over a year ago on amazon. i used it maybe 6 times at most. the last time i used it, the ceramic insert stress cracked all the way around. i am a very careful person and it was NOT my fault. to order a new insert would have cost (with shipping) more than i paid for the whole pot so i ditched it and began a search for something better.
i ran across the Nesco and did some online research on it. it sounded like the answer for me.
it came last week (from amazon) and i followed the "smoke out" directions and then made my first meal in it last night....my take on a chicken stew recipe that was included in the manual. omg! it was wonderful.
one meal does not a satisfied customer make but i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship between me and my Nesco. if things change, i'll update this review. this review is for the 6 qt. red roaster with porcelain cookwell...no more ceramic for me although they do make one.

The NESCO 4816-12G 6qt Red Roaster oven is a favorite for today's increasing number of two-person households. It's perfect for baking as well and roomy enough for cooking your favorite recipes. The patented and unique "Circle of Heat" heating works from the the side and not bottom. Food doesn't burn and wrapping the element around the sides of the roaster, makes for more moist, even cooking. And with automatic temperature control (125 degrees to 425 degrees), the Nesco Roaster maintains even cooking temperatures. The oval 6 qt capacity cookwell will also accomodate a 7" pie pan, 1 lb loaf pan or 1-1/2 qt casserole dish. Use it to cook chicken, ham, ribs or roast beef, soups, stews and chilis. Seafood, rice or even lasagna and meatloof. Does a great job of baking too so use the Nesco Roaster Oven to make muffins, breads and desserts.
